When apple is cut, within few minutes it changes colour turning dark. Its because of the contact with air and the subsequent chemical reaction. To prevent that, just add few drops of lemon juice and toss it well. This will help the apple retain its colour.
Useful info about apples.
ReplyDeleteFor ghee, my mom adds salt and she says it helps the solid particles to settle down. The salt also settles down and just imparts a flavor to ghee.

I too toss apples in lemon juice to prevent darkening and when I need to give it to my kid in her lunch box I wrap the cut apples in aluminium foil to avoid discolouration.
ReplyDeleteUseful tip Mira. My mom used to add a piece of velam in the ghee jar so that it will not smell stale.
